LIPSTICK !
Wow.. I'm not a big political guy for sure... but over the last few years I have become more aware of whats going on around us. I guess having a kid and more than my fair share of responsibility has brought all that to light.
Anyway.. I have been apathetic to this current presidential race for a long time. I knew I didn't like Obama.. but I wasn't exactly enamoured with gimpy McCain either. the more I listen to the radio on my way to work..and the more I read.. the more and more I had been paying attention.. desperately looking for someone or something to believe in as November rapidly approaches.
It was funny.. just the other day I asked my carpool mate ( his name is Stee Ring Wheel FYI) .. why the hell can' t we find a friggin politician that we can "like" ?
I mean "like" the same way you like that friend that is easy to talk to.. the one that makes you laugh and the one you WANT to hang out with because they are straight talkers and they don't ever blow smoke up your ass..
Why can't we have a Politician that stands up there and says.. "you know what? You are right.. our Economy is in the shitter... and it's clogged BIG TIME.. Now, I'm no plumber.. but I'm the President of the United States and I'll get the best damn plumber your tax dollars can buy"
I would appreciate that.. really.
Oh well.. I digress
The reason for tonight's post is to tell you that I think I fell in love last night...
Oh yeah.. I am smitten with Sarah Palin.. She loves guns.. she loves hockey.. her kids are adorable and you can tell she loves them.. She hunts and likes to fish.. but above all.. she talked TO us last night.. not down at us..
When I first heard that McCain picked a relative no name candidate to be his VP.. and then saw it was a woman .. I immediately thought it must be some kind of political ploy..someone to counter Hilary.. bla bla bla..
But remember.. I don't follow politics as much as I follow.. say.. Fantasy Football ! I can probably recite Terrell Owens' work out regimen ... but until last night I couldn't tell you the first thing about Sarah P.
So.. I had to go OLD SCHOOL to form my opinions.. I actually had to tune in to the TV and listen to what she had to say..
I swear... this is no joke..at one point, she had me laughing..another, almost crying..then, cheering.. and over all, feeling good.
It made me think almost immediately of Ronnie Reagan. He was the last president that made me feel good to listen to him speak.. and I was almost too young to rightfully remember him.
I know she is "only" the VP nominee.. but for me anyway.. she breathed some life back into the presidential race!

I was never sitting on the fence about my choice of candidate, because I believe Obama will be really bad for foreign policies, but hearing Sara's speach cinched my decision to vote for McCain. The two of them can make waves together and maybe get someone's attention in Washington. Let's pray that the BIASED media dosen't influence enough uninformed voters to go the wrong way. I saw the first bumper sticker today for the McCain campaign..."READ MY LIPSTICK"....Rainy
I guess we all see what we want to see. I'd no sooner want SP to be president than I'd want the mayor of Norristown in the White House. And Norristown might have as many people as Alaska. To me she just exemplifies how much the far right has co-opted the Republican party. The only true Republican that ran this election cycle was Ron Paul. In 2000 I was a huge McCain supporter. He was actually entitled to calling himself a maverick then. He got hatcheted by GW and his attack dog Rove. Now he's gone out a got his own pit bull. He's not even the same person anymore. His rhetoric is now completely at odds with his recent transformation. Who'd a thought I could miss Ross Perot. -Jaded

You are obviously Male....What are you reading? Listen to the man..he is still a "free thinker"...wait til he gets in!
Hmmmm, did SP tell us what she was gonna do for us? Did McCain? You don't say why you don't like Obama, but did you listen to his acceptance speech? I finally heard what I was waiting to hear: a plan, several plans. I heard that someone was going to do something for me and my fellow Americans, not the 5% who already have it all. Want to be inspired? Find Obama's speech on line and start reading from "let me spell out exactly what that change would mean if I am president". You won't hear that from the McSame camp. I know longer am singin': "Gimme something to believe in"!
Yeah, McCain was respectable as an Independent until he caved and went over to the dark side. Let's face it, the dude is old and not very healthy either. SP? Charismatic, cute, cutthroat (maybe even unethical?) - but they only invited her aboard for votes. McCain won't let a woman do any heavy lifting, even if she is better at it than him.
Wow.. great post.. (the one preceeding this one) please leave a name next time so I can chat with you..
NO.. you are right.. I did not hear his accpt. speech.. and I will look it up per your suggestion and I'll reply.. I promise !
What I did say.. or tried to imply at least.. is that NEITHER party did anything for me until I heard that speech.. She didn't really say anything at this time that had substance regarding what will be done if the Repubs get elected.. I don't know that I believe anything anymore until I see it anyway..
Which is exactly why I WAS enamoured with what she had to say.. she delivered it such that I felt she was speaking to me! She seemed real to me.. Obama (and McCain for that matter) speaks like your prototypical politician.. and all I want is someone to be "real"..
That unfortunately is almost impossible in their positions.. I know..but she came closer than anyone has in years (IMO).. but this is just the beginning..we'll see if I still feel this way in a month.
Max
Well, I was like you (sort of) until I heard Obama's speech which I am sure not many average Republicans did. THAT was inspirational towards the end when he provided details on what he's going to do as President. I didn't hear (or read) those details from Palin or McCain.
well, we still have plenty of time for more info. Everything a politician does .. especially this time of year is calculated and planned right? Intent only gets you part of the way there.
I liked her speech.. plain and simple. She struck a cord with me and it had nothing to do with partisianship (spell?).. not for me.
We'll see.. anyone that knows me .. knows Im a skeptic.. time will tell but as for now.. Im voting for the Maverick and the Hockey Mom
Ok.. I went and read his speech.. yes, he certianly did say what he wants/plans to do..but there was also very little about HOW he was going to do it.
Even when he did elaborate a bit on the "how" it was very thin.. and the devil is always in the details right?
Anyway.. much of what he promises does sound good to me.. but that is mainly because I am not in the top 5% of American Wealth holders... but still good for me.
I don't like Socialized medicine however.. that's a whole other debate .. I am sure we will hear how the repubs plan to attack the economy.. so I'll be waiting for that.
In the mean-time check out this Blog post I found regarding some of the things Obama states he wants to do:
